Portrait Drawing at Port Noarlunga Arts Centre

On Monday nights at Port Noarlunga Arts Centre I run alternate sessions in life drawing and portrait drawing. Beginners are especially welcome to both sessions. You might like to come and try your hand at portraits and when you are a bit more confident you could try life drawing.  Bring willow charcoal, pencils, cartridge paper, clips and A3 drawing boards; easels are provided.

I’m doing a series of Sunday afternoon workshops at PNAC. This is the current schedule for Sunday workshopsschedule-for-PNAC-Sunday-drawing-workshops-2018-julia-wakefield

We start with one on Charcoal, on Feb 25. Suitable for both beginners and those with some prior experience, this is an introduction to working with charcoal focusing on still life subjects; covering the different types of charcoal and the most suitable paper, with demonstrations of techniques and their applications.  Bring willow charcoal (medium thickness), A3 cartridge paper, clips and A3 drawing boards; easels are provided.

I am planning to run a Sunday afternoon workshop on March 24 that is designed to take away the fear of drawing portraits by demonstrating strategies to improve accuracy and avoid basic mistakes. We’ll be focusing on the anatomy of the skull, the pitfalls of portraiture, achieving accuracy without losing expression, and how much detail is most effective. It will be followed by a workshop on Portraits in Colour on April 29.

If you would like to come to the Monday portrait sessions and/or the Sunday workshops, contact me by filling in the form below, or go to the South Adelaide Life Drawing Meetup page where you can see details of all the upcoming sessions.
